The debut of the Mercury Cougar - an upscale version of the Ford Mustang |
1967 Mercury Cougar
The Mercury Cougar was first introduced in 1967 as a contender to compete in the pony car market. As a more upscale version of the Ford Mustang the new Cougar's emphasis boasted luxury and new styling, although it managed to make its mark on the American street scene in the muscle car market. The first year production was a total of 150,893, with about 27,221 being XR-7's. The XR-7 was similar to the standard Cougar except that it had fancier interior and a wood grain dashboard insert.1967 Mercury Cougar Specifications
