The 1968 AMC Rebel

1968 AMC Rebel

Another new introduction by AMC in 1968 was the Rebel. A variety of 6-cylinder and V8 engines were available on the 114 inch wheelbase intermediate model. In addition to sedans, hardtops and wagons, the Rebel was the only AMC model to offer a convertible for this year which consequently was the last year for AMC convertibles. Also new for the '68 model year was flush-mounted paddle style door handles which replaced the former push-button design due to new U.S. government standards for all passenger cars. Standard engine options for the Rebel was a 232 cu. in. 6-cylinder while the Rebel SST was equipped with a 'Typhoon' 290 V8 engine.
