1 of 3! Full CCCA genuine classic allowed to participate in their events and caravans. Only 416 Lincoln model Ks were built total in 1938, only 15 were Lebaron convertible sedans of which only 3 had a divider window! The K model was appreciated by the rich and powerful. It is claimed that this one was built for President Roosevelt\'s Secretary of the U S. Treasury: Henry Morganthal. The K model was one of the most exclusive luxury models produced in the 1930s. I priced it at what it cost new! It was $6,000 which is equivalent to $134,000 today.
EXTERIOR: I\'m in love, take a few minutes and soak it all in! The car has an impressive presence, it\'s sheer size is jaw dropping. The body is by Lebaron, unique features include dual side mounts tires with optional painted covers, molded in headlights and the most unique feature is the convertible top along with a divider window usually reserved for formal sedans. The hood ornament is a piece of artwork. The fit and finish is excellent, especially considering it was done several years ago. The paint is very smooth to the touch and it was beautifully laid out with expert detail. Looking down the side of the body, it is 100% laser straight with no rust or damage. All the panels have been expertly aligned with gaps that rival a brand new Mercedes. The substantially heavy doors close with a solid satisfying feeling. The real magic happens when you retract the convertible top. The b-pillars are actually removable, completely changing the profile of the car, giving it an even sleeker look and providing a true open air experience. All of the chrome has a lustrous shine. It also has optional fog lamps and accesorie brackets for a trunk. It\'s sitting on a beautiful set of steel rims that are painted body color with the correct center caps. They are wrapped in a beautiful set of extra wide white wall tires.
INTERIOR: Right now I\'m sitting in rear of this car and feel like royalty! It\'s more like a couch in a family room then the back seat of a car. The leather is nice and soft, not hard and stiff. The fold down center armrest and side armrests with built-in ashtrays are well designed and executed. The door panels are also genuine leather and have built in folders for your executive documents. I\'ve never sat in a car with so much leg room before, it\'s absolutely amazing. The divider window easily rolls up and down; very practical if you don\'t want the chauffeur to hear your important business discussions. The front seat is also very well appointed and also has genuine leather upholstery. The dash metal is exquisitely painted and all the gauges have a magical petina. Every detail is absolutely glorious. This car is so fancy even the inside of the glove box is upholstered.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Smooth running V-12! It\'s reputation says you can balance a nickel on its edge while running! A powerful 150 horsepower is produced from the 414 cubic inch engine. It was completely rebuilt by Egge Machine in Santa Fe. They were established in 1915 and specialize in early cars. Rebuilt using new pistons and valves, the block was line bored, plus they rebuilt the crankshaft and heads too. Overall the motor compartment shows a very well preserved high quality restoration. The components look proper.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It still has it\'s original carpet liner from 1938 including the underside of the trunklid. It has a newer carpet mat as well.
UNDERSIDE: It appears to be solid and well preserved. The floor pans look like they have not been patched or rusted. The frame is smooth and not pitted. The mechanical components look to be in very good and proper condition.
SERVICE: Our shop manager was pleasantly surprised by how well this car started and ran!
CONCLUSION: This car is impressive, if for no other reason, just due to its sheer size and weight. Closing the door feels like a bank vault! This is true luxury and quality, that is unmatched by any modern standards! In 2023 a 1938 Lincoln K sold for $472,500! This is one of the least expensive examples to hit the market in the last 15 years.
