DESCRIPTION

1950 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe 2 Door Sport Coupe

For consignment, a 1950 Chevrolet Styleline Deluxe 2 door sport coupe which has had some recent work and although our consignor modestly claims it\'s not a \"show car,\" one look at the lines of this vintage automobile and we respectfully disagree. Perhaps not a show \"winning\" car would be more appropriate, but the car is showy based on its lines alone. It needs a few things to bring it up to show quality and a lucky person will get a great set of bones from which to start.

Exterior
The name of the game here is large, as in proportions, features, and overall presence. At the pinnacle of chrome use, the massive grille and front bumper could be mistaken for a cowcatcher, only more stylish and the face of rolling art. The rising, bulbous hood is also like a freight train like and leads to the windshield, topped with an external visor and providing a narrow but adequate look at the road ahead. Fender trim trails off into rocker trim that terminates at the articulated rear fenders and more bright work in the form of gravel guards just ahead of fender skirts over the rear wheels. Trim around the gas cap? Wow, what were designers thinking? But it just works. An optional center bumper guard in the back stands tall over the bumper itself and chrome exhaust deflectors turned fumes downward but also look great under the gigantic, rounded trunk. Get within 20 feet and you\'ll notice long cracks in the paint in several areas, some paint chips, bubbling, and some surface rust where paint\'s been chipped near the trunk.

Interior
Pleated gray tweed and smooth gray cloth top the door panels, contrasted by brown carpeted lowers and gray painted tops for a lovely design. The tweed and cloth continue the split bench seat which is in very good condition, but a portion of the outer shell has become dislodged. A rear bench mirrors the upholstery pattern and continues the door patterns on the sidewalls for a nicely coordinated cabin. An X is formed by the horn ring on the steering wheel, which is currently wrapped in an aftermarket, stitched cover. Art deco style font adorns the large gauge which cleverly relays five bits of information with the speedometer being front and center. Large ivory buttons are jukebox-like on the vertically embedded AM radio toward the center, just beside a metal grille protecting the speaker. A square clock is then worked in, also trimmed in polished metal and a gray painted glove box fronts the passenger. Low pile tan/gray carpeting covers the floor and is slightly weathered while the cloth headliner and windlace are in great shape. The trunk is large and flat and lined with a gray cloth, spare and jack are in place.

Drivetrain
Under the enormous hood is a very clean 216.5ci inline 6 cylinder engine rated at 85hp and fueled by a rebuilt 1-barrel carburetor. Three on the tree run the 3-speed manual transmission with a new clutch and resurfaced flywheel while 4.11 gears are in the back to receive the power. Drum brakes have a new master cylinder, lines, and drums and are found at all four corners.

Undercarriage
Interestingly, true dual exhaust is on the car with two exhaust manifolds covering three cylinders each. The exhaust flows into the stock style muffler and then straight out the back. Underneath, driver quality conditions include surface rust, some grease build up, and residual oil on the pan and flywheel cover. There\'s some rust through on a body brace and a drop of oil on the rear differential. We also noted some surface rust under the doors. Beyond that, things look decent underneath. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back.

Drive-Ability
It\'s post-war America and you just moved out to the suburbs with your growing family. What better than this big coupe that holds the entire family and anything you want to carry in the trunk, like your mother in law. We joke, but seriously, the car circled our test loop in fine fashion and while you won\'t win any races with it, it certainly provides a smooth and ultra comfortable ride, and that was key for the buyer. We noted the clock is inoperable, the radio is not working, and our consignor states the heater blower works intermittently. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

You don\'t have to be Elliot Ness to discover the potential of this car. You read about the mechanical upgrades and see the straight body. The interior is in nice condition and it\'s a good runner, so the list of restoration items is fairly short. Make room in the garage and then call the mall on this one!
