DESCRIPTION

1939 Plymouth Road King 6 Series P7 Business Coupe

For consignment, a 1939 Plymouth P7 Road King Business Coupe hot rod showing 23,438 non actual miles. Not often seen, this car shows Chrysler designers hitting their stride with this car. Aerodynamics were all the rage in styling and this P7 drips with it. A tall split grille, rounded fenders and a sleek profile and this car has the advantage, and we didn\'t even turn it on...yet!

Exterior
Shades of summer heat and raging infernos with its Porsche Indian Red steel painted exterior showing with chips, touch ups, inclusions, and a few areas of orange peel. The front of this car is just gorgeous with its split grille standing tall in the center and rounding over to the hood. Horizontal chrome rigs curve around the V it forms on its way to the hood. On either side lower horizontal ribbed split grilles are on either side. Then we move to the fenders which have been expertly designed and preserved in the red and these sport wonderful wide bezeled chrome frenched in rectangular headlights. A running board greets the back of the front fender, goes under the doors for easy access to the cabin, then greets up with another bulbous rear fender which swoops up and down, eventually forming the back of this sleek and slippery trunk car. The roofline is not to be outdone using never a straight line and just centerfold like curves. Tinted glass and a rear oval window add to the look. Tail lights are pointed vertical ovals and smooth bumperettesare on the bottom. Dual exhaust pokes out either side from under the bumper and 14 and 15-inch polished Weld Drag Star wheels are on all 4 corners. Did I mention the tinted glass and small aerodynamic mirrors hanging off the doors on both sides? I give you a real Road King

Interior
I\'m getting excited as I swing the front conventional hinged doors as I spot some fuzzy broadcloth tuck and roll black covered panels. Power window toggles are integrated into a snappy armrest in this field. Below is a strip of black carpet to finish off the panel. Inside, more fuzzy black broadcloth is on the late model open back bucket seats for the front and in back is a carpeted panel with speakers and a few remote control levers. The buckets have an overstuffed look and have wide smooth black broadcloth bolsters and smaller tuck and roll inserts which are presented with perfectlycomplementarywhite piping. A nice contrast to the black broadcloth. Upfront a snazzy wood rimmed banjo style steering wheel is installed. This fronts a snappy dash in Porsche Red with a burl wood insert holding round antique white faced VDOgauges in this panel. Peppering this dash and we see an AM/FM/Cassette radio,a power antenna toggle and a few unlabeled rocker switches. Just below is an aftermarket heater/AC unit spans the dash bottom with a central vent flanked by more outboard venting. An 8 ball topped shifter is reaching for the driver within a field of clean black carpeting. Replacing the clock and the glove box door is a wood panel with a 1939 Plymouth badging in gold. More black broadcloth is used for the headliner and a cavernous black carpet lined truck wraps things up nicely.

Drivetrain
The sides of the hood are open, and these reveal a 327ci V8 that has been bored .040 over and fitted with a TRW 350hp camshaft. A 750cfm Edelbrock 4-barrel carb feeds this active mill and the valves are actuated via Crane roller rockers. On the back is a TH400 3-speed automatic and a 12 bolt Positraction rear axle with consignor stated 3.69 gears. Block hugger headers are on to aid in spentfossil removal.

Undercarriage
A beefed up suspension which includes a Martz Mustang II front end with coilovers and leaf springs with helper coil springs are now on this undercarriage. Power disc braking in front and power drums on back and a Flowmaster exhaust is in dual form. A polished gas tank is also underneath, and it is equipped with an electric fuel pump. All clean and rust free steel in black makes up the flooring and frame and we note just slight seepage from the engine, trans and rear differential.

Drive-Ability
I hopped in and felt like I was in 1939 heaven driving this beautiful rod. A comfy interior, and a cinch to drive. Nice acceleration, smooth shifting and good handling with the larger suspension. All functions were working as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

A fabulous build and the perfect color rodder. All nicely done with all the amenities and conveniences, rolling down the road at high speed and looking great doing it. Who cares if Fords had the teardrop headlights, this car design rocks!
