DESCRIPTION

1959 Plymouth Fury Hardtop

For consignment, a 1959 Plymouth Fury hardtop showing 79,863 miles which cannot be verified to be actual as the title reads mileage exempt. Plymouth touted some of the new features which included a swivel front seat, push button transmission, and distinctive ornamentation. This one has been garage kept and not driven in rain for at least the past ten years.

Exterior
As if the design is not eye-catching enough, this one is dressed in Aqua Mist and surely a few gallons of paint were needed to hit every edge with bright, standout results. A white insert between bold polished trim travels the length of the car to augment the aqua sea and although Plymouth referred to this car as low, there\'s still plenty of real estate above this center trim feature. The front edge points sharply forward, creating a sculpted brow over what Plymouth called \"floating headlights,\" then the straight shoulder line runs all the way to the back window where it is met by a rising fin that takes off like Evel Knievel at the Snake River Canyon, then turns 90 degrees downward, like Evel, in a bladed vertical rear edge. The rear fascia is a conglomeration of curved panels, protruding oval tail light housing, and an enveloping massive rear bumper. The rear decklid is accented by a pair of canted antennae and the huge curved rear window creates an interior greenhouse. The paint and metalwork, wheel covers and glass, are all in fantastic condition with one spot of bubbling down low noted as the only imperfection on the exterior.

Interior
Highland Green provides a contrast to the aqua and begins on the door panels where a swoop of white hovers over a silver insert and shows a bit of unevenness but is clean and intact. The green front bucket seats are adorned with dark green patterns of uniquely stitched patterns and are in great shape with just some separation where the lower and upper come together. The back bench is vast and green and a center ribbon of dark green matches the armrests. A visual cacophony greets you in the steering wheel with dark green plastic, translucent plastic that was likely clear, now colored and cracking with age, and a horn ring with decorative bullet accents. The space age dash is a sight to behold, based in formed aqua framing, the speedometer panel is reminiscent of Robot from Lost In Space and flanked by two rows of long push buttons that control the transmission on the left and the climate controls on the right, backed by a textured metal panel. To the right, a padded dash cover is above the AM radio, a clock, and the glove box and it\'s all in very good condition. Green loop carpet covers the floor and a fantastically complex white headliner adds yet more to the ornate interior. The massive trunk is cleanly covered with a gray mat and gray cover over the spare.

Drivetrain
Under the big hood, a 318ci V8, clean, and rated at 230 horsepower. A 2-barrel carburetor feeds the red block and a Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels and 2.93 gears. Power drum brakes are front and rear. The bay is clean and presentable for show and display.

Undercarriage
Overall relatively clean underneath with minor surface rust, oil present on the pan, transmission, rear differential and some surrounding parts. Oil sling near the back of the transmission is apparent. The dual exhaust intersect a pair of MagnaFlow mufflers on their way to exiting out back via chrome tips. Torsion bar suspension is used up front, and leaf springs are out back.

Drive-Ability
Long and low was the direction of design as the 50\'s transitioned to the 60\'s and this \'59 exemplifies that, but it\'s still a massive automobile. There\'s lots of metal surrounding us as we roll the Fury onto the tarmac, enjoying the clear view of its F15 like tail. She floats over the surface and the 318 provides adequate power and the car tracks and stops well. We note the radio is not working, nor is the speedometer and odometer. All other functions work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Here\'s 17 feet of pure rocket styled beauty. Six and half feet wide. Dramatic is an understatement. Plymouth exclaimed, \"It\'s a light-hearted, youthful car, a fresh new look in automobiles.\". It was in many ways, regarded as ground breaking and unique and is unquestionably one of the iconic classics of the late 50\'s. Here\'s one is great shape, a great color, and ready to grace the garage of the next owner. Swivel over to the phone and talk to one of our Car Specialists today!
