DESCRIPTION

1987 Chevrolet K5 Silverado Blazer

For consignment, a 1987 Chevrolet K5 Silverado Blazer showing 68,985 non verifiable miles as the title reads Mileage Exceeds Mechanical Limits, with headers, A/C, and an opportunity to get into one of the most collectible trucks in the market today. As our consignor states, \"She\'s not perfect, but she can be driven home!\".

Note: Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area

Exterior
Fall into the Burning Ring of Fire with this all Black K5, accented by a double gold stripe that encircles the shoulder line and along the tailgate. There\'s body molding on the midline that also makes its way to the back where a stainless plate takes on the Chevrolet nameplate and dealer emblem. The flat grille and stacked headlights tower over a large chrome bumper and front air dam, but the widest point of the truck is at the edge of the side mirrors. 15-inch alloy wheels wear LT rated all terrain tires with a mid 2020 date code and exhaust tips exit behind both back wheels, while a tow hitch is ready and waiting out back. In profile, this is a tall truck with lots of ground clearance and the black cap on back has sliding glass tinted windows and completes the silhouette of this square body. The paint is presentable, and the body is straight. Imperfections are common with scratches, a poorly welded rocker panel, bubbling, orange peel, a gash in the tailgate that is rusting where paint has been removed, rust bubble on the gate, and a rusted hold on the left side of the gate, and spotting on the surface of the paint.

Interior
Doeskin is the official interior color form GM and starts on the molded plastic door panels with cloth inserts, a carpeted lower, and a metallic panel across the top. A storage pouch has been added on each panel and both sides show some patina and discoloration. The cloth bucket seats in front are in nice shape and the color provides strong contrast to the black exterior. The bench seat is robustly stuffed and soft with armrests and lots of legroom, while the vinyl sidewalls show a bit of wrinkling. Your standard Chevrolet steering wheel is provided to the driver in front of the simple analog dash with left gauges canted towards the driver with patina and discoloration on the surface. Gears are shifted on the column and the range selector is floor mounted, surrounded by plush tan carpet in good condition, stained in some areas but overall, not bad. The headliner shows sag and of course, the cap is fiberglass and uncovered. The cargo area is carpeted and shows usage while housing a spare tire and speakers.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is a purely driver quality 350ci V8 with fuel injection and headers. It\'s backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission with splits power between the 10 bolt axles in front and rear. Our consignor notes that the rear axle has been rebuilt and the prior owner stated that the transmission and transfer case were rebuilt, but there is no documentation to back up this claim. Power brakes are supplied with discs in front and drums in the back.

Undercarriage
Driver quality underneath as well with plenty of surface rust and some of it is pitted. There\'s more invasive rust on the inner rocker panels which are quite crispy, along with repairs to body braces. We noted some rust on the bottom of the doors which doesn\'t look too bad right now, but might need attention. Overall, the underside seems dry although the skid plate under the transfer case seams coated in residual oil, as does the flywheel cover and oil pan, but no drops are seen. Suspension consists of leaf springs front and rear and the dual exhaust meets FlowMaster mufflers before turning to the sides and exit via chrome tips. There are no catalytic converters on the truck.

Drive-Ability
Love the view from up here, although you have to be a little flexible to climb aboard, an easy fix with step ups. The cabin is comfortable and airy with plenty of head and arm room. We fire the 350 up and eagerly spin around the test loop where the K5 accelerates with authority, tracks straight, and the brakes operate as they should. What doesn\'t operate? Well, the driver\'s power window and the power locks. The passenger window is slow as blackstrap molasses and had us wishing for crank windows. All other functions worked as expected. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

In Thunder Road, Springsteen proclaims, \"You ain\'t a beauty but hey, you\'re alright.\". Well, to some, this might not be a beautiful truck. It\'s certainly not a show truck. But in 2024, K5\'s are simply awesome. Maybe it\'s due to the resurgen
