1956 Ford Customline Victoria 2 Door Hardtop
For consignment, a 1956 Ford Customline Victoria 2 door hardtop, one of 164,828 produced in 1956, still on the road and considered one of the great American classic cars. Our consignor states that this car has been the recipient of many trophies and has had some newer components added during his years of ownership. And no worries, this one has seat belts!
Exterior
Peacock Blue over Colonial white adorns this big car in stunning two tone configuration. The white hood sweeps back sending white over the shoulder line of the car and over the trunk. The blue roof is suspended by pillars of polished metal and the blue below is delineated by a polished spear that runs end to end. A unique custom option is presented by painted bumpers, grille, door handles, emblems, and marker light housings in a light aluminum paint, while the hood ornament retains its polished exterior. Wraparound front glass and large side windows track down the sloping roof into a narrower but wrapping rear window in what had to be a design choice for aerodynamics, and results in a car that appears to be moving forward when parked. On the corners, we have 15-inch polished American Racing Torque Thrust wheels surrounded by white wall tires. Imperfections are mostly limited to lower areas and include bubbling in multiple places, cracking paint, and some scratches. There\'s some cracked paint below the window on the passenger side at the door jamb and a chip in the white paint elsewhere.
Interior
White vinyl door panels are accented with a dark blue cloth insert that is trimmed in a silver band and the entire pattern continues to the walls of the back seat. The white vinyl split bench seats also include an insert of this blue patterned cloth, and this is mirrored on the rear bench which has \"Lost in the 50\'s\" embroidered in the center section. The piping of the front seats reveal some usage, but overall the seats are clean and intact with tears or blemishes. Seatbelts are present! A 3 spoke steering wheel has a beautiful blue rim with finger grooves mounted on a body matched column leading to a dash that picks the Colonial White and houses white faced gauged rimmed in the Peacock Blue. And let\'s not forget the fuzzy dice image in the Speedhut speedometer, nice touch! The rest of the dash also presents with glossy paint and a pinstripe design and includes a satellite capable AM/FM radio. Blue courtesy lights cast a colorful glow on the blue loop carpet on the floor and the white headliner above keeps with the two tone theme and both look great. A floor mounted shifter is in the center. The trunk is covered in blue carpet for a finished look.
Drivetrain
More blue under the big hood as the clean engine presents in show ready condition. It\'s a rebuilt 302ci V8 wearing an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold. Movement is created by the rebuilt C4 3-speed automatic transmission sending power to the back and 3.23 gears. And just like 1956, drum brakes are found on all four wheels with new brakes and wheel cylinders.
Undercarriage
This is a pleasantly clean and dry underside with no grease build up, little surface rust to speak of, and no drops of oil. The dual exhaust flows into a pair of Cherrybomb mufflers and then straight to the back, exiting via chrome tips under the bumper. Coil springs are the suspension up front while leaf springs live out back. We note some LED strips under the car for some nighttime fun.
Drive-Ability
It\'s not unreasonable that this car was witness to early songs released by Carl Perkins, Chuck Berry, and Elvis Presley. And here we are 68 years later still able to drive this car. How cool! And driveshe did, with a healthy sounding exhaust coming from the 302 cuber and Cherrybombs, the car exhibited decent power and amazing visibility from the greenhouse. Gauges, lights, brakes, horn, and all the rest worked as intended!
A beautiful two tone example of pure Americana. We were spreading to the suburbs, growing families, and going to work each day and Ford Customlines were there for the ride. This is an award winning car that will turn heads wherever it goes. Maybe your parents or grandparents, (or great-grandparents?), had one just like it.
